Looking for a discrete friend and lover (berkeley north / hills)

Date: 2009-08-14, 2:06PM PDT

Obviously it is too easy to mock the CL personals section. But looking for a "discrete friend and lover?!" Yep, that's why most people turn to the personals - they want a separate entity to love. - GB

I am looking for a friend, a lover, someone in a similar situation (things are okay at home, but you feel or know that you may be missing something). Most importantly, I am not looking to disrupt my home life or yours. This is about enriching our lives. Interested? I'm 49, 6', 175lbs, athletic, brown hair/green eyes. I've been called handsome. Photos can be swapped after we feel comfortable with each other Don't be shy now, you won't know if I am right for you unless you send a note and let me know if you are interested.

$1100 Room For Rent in Brisbane House - Musician-friendly

Date: 2009-08-05, 1:01PM PDT

"If you don't include either it is unlikely your message will be read."
This is in the category of demanding, self-important, bureaucratic people who have driven away roommate after roommate and it's back to CL with the template again. -GB

Dear Craigslister,

I'm renting a room in Brisbane, just 10 minutes from downtown SF. It is located high on the hill facing north-east, and has an incredible view from the living room, spanning from the upper floors of financial district buildings all the way down to Hayward. The room has its own entrance, and bathroom, and an adjacent patio that will be mainly for use by the room's renter. Room rental include kitchen and laundry privileges. The common areas, along with responsibility for their cleanliness and upkeep, will be shared. The room is fairly small (will measure and update ad soon), but hopefully the full bathroom with tub/shower and double glass-paned doors opening to the large patio, plus common areas and some additional storage, too, will provide you a comfortable space.

I'd prefer to share the home with a mature professional male with no pets, but most important is that you be clean, quiet, and very 'low maintenance.' However, one cat, only, will be condiered. Or at least must be acceptable, as I intend to care for one.

This will be a great place for someone who works in the city, but prefers life in a small town. The commute from Brisbane to most anywhere in SF is less than most travel within the city itself. It is a nice balance between town and country life. This is a place for someone of love peace and quiet. If you're looking for an exciting urban lifestyle, I'd recommend staying in SF itself.

Rent is 1100. plus utilities (cable, elect., water, garbage, etc.). You must have held your current full time job for at least a year, and expect to keep it for at least another one.

Accepted renter will be living with one professional male aged 46, who works in the web/internet communications industry in SF's financial district. Also; an avid reader, watcher of documentaries, a percussionist (small latin instruments, and a quiet electronic kit, no full trap set) a martial artist, and athlete.

Though this will primarily be a living, and not a social arrangement, it is unlikely that the renter and rentee will get along if the renter is a republican. Perfectionists and slobs may also refrain from responding. To show you've read this, please note weather you're a musician, or not, in the subject of your response. If you are a musician, please note what instrument, and in which sort of genre, or group, you play. If you don't include either it is unlikely your message will be read.

Best of luck in your search for a place to live.

Thank You

$565 artsy attic, eco-kitchen/w/d, hdwd flrs, women's music (berkeley north / hills) (map)

One of many people with "environmental sensitivities." Wikipedia notes that "MCS [Multiple Chemical Sensitivity] is a controversial diagnosis and is not recognised as an organic, chemical-caused illness by the American Medical Association.[2] Blinded trials have shown that MCS patients do not react to chemicals,[3] but they do react in unblinded tests when they believe they are being exposed to a trigger.[4] This has led some to believe that MCS symptoms are simply due to odor hypersensitivity [5] or are mainly psychological.[2]" Evidently " it has been rejected as an established organic disease by the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the International Society of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology." -GB

Artsy attic "cloud" room
in a beautiful house that hosts monthly house concerts (about 8-10x per year)

Available starting sometime between August 12 & 17 (flexible), but a nice Master Bedroom is available for sublet July 22nd until the cloud room is available!
If you need something before July 22, a smaller room is available temporarily starting whenever you need it.

$565-585 per month

Please respond only if it all feels like truly a match for you (to help with that, the ad’s so detailed it’s practically a novel).

Hardwood floors, bamboo eco-kitchen/laundry, back & front yard, trees
http://www.rosestreetmusic.com to find out more about
the women's music events (you don't have to
be musical, just appreciate & support music by women
singer/songwriters).

Attic "Cloud room", very private & secluded, feels kind of like a tree house, ~120 sq. ft including built-in loft bed platform, partially furnished with built in shelves & optional desk, white & sky-blue with painted clouds, 2 windows overlooking the back yard
$565-585 (depending on lease length) per month if just renting the cloud room with no extra space (i.e. everything fits in your room), $595-615 if you need some extra space.

Your bathroom (shared after August 12) has blue & white tile shower + bathtub, glass blocks, earthy-green-porcelain tile floor, large mahogany countertop, lots of cabinet space, 1 window etc.

Wanna move in sooner? From July 22nd to August 12th (when the cloud room becomes available) you could sublet the Master Bedroom while I'm on tour (and I'll make it for same price!). The Master bedroom has a very comfy queen bed, 2 windows, hardwood floors, and burgundy wood trim, with your own private beautiful sunny huge greenhouse-like adjoining bathroom (which even has a green-house like space great for private indoor sunbathing or stargazing).

Own phone line available in the room
+ $10 for DSL (high-speed internet), PGE & EBMUD utilities shared
Rent includes garbage service

You: queer-friendly nonsmoking woman, clean & responsible, considerate, honest, friendly, not a heavy partier, & enjoy women singer/songwriter music (we all volunteer to help the house concerts happen, so our first choice would be a housemate who's enthusiastic about the concerts & would like to be involved behind the scenes). You get to hear amazing music in your own home, & sometimes workshops too! No musical ability is required at all to live here, but enthusiasm’s a plus :o)

Us: All of the above. 37 y.o. Singer/Songwriter/Counselor (see www.sonicbids.com/irinarivkin and www.myspace.com/irinarivkin for info). And, a mature 20’s math college teacher, and a UCB Student. We love the outdoors.

I have severe allergies to all tobacco & pot smoke (even if you smoke outdoors it would affect me), perfume, incense, patchouli, lavender-essential-oil (& many other flowery essential oils), scented hair-oil/leave-on-conditioner, hairspray, etc., so please be a nonsmoker who doesn't wear fragrances (it's sad to be allergic to one's housemate – so this one’s not negotiable).

It’s a beautiful craftsman house (not an apartment)! The spacious living/dining room is where volunteer-run volunteer-hosted women's house concerts take place
about once every month or two. Hardwood floors, mahogany wood paneling,
beautiful art on the walls & an upright piano too!
Environmentally friendly large newish eco-kitchen (bamboo
cabinets by Alter-Eco, bamboo-floor, granite countertops),
all newish appliances (2003) -- eco-washer/dryer,
energy star range/stove/hood, dishwasher, & a cool reverse-osmosis-water-filter!
2 bathrooms, front vegetable/herb garden & back yard -- we have a peach tree and beautiful purple flowering vine, trees, a hammock, & more space to garden.

We're in North Berkeley, a very nice tree-lined area
of Berkeley right near public transit, less than a
mile from No. Berkeley BART, 1 mile from UC, & 3
miles from Tilden Park with hiking, lake swimming.
Close to shops, restaurants, “gourmet ghetto,” Live Oak Park, etc.. Nature & convenience! A few steps from FatApple’s restaurant.

Allergic to cats & dogs, so please no furry pets.

Speaking of health, one more request. We had the unusual situation last year where one roommate (who no longer lives here) passed on her cold to other housemates, twice in 2 months (every time she got one, we got it ~3 days later). So, since one of us is a singer/counselor, and none of us like to get sick, we’re looking for someone who’s very clean & conscientious in that regard (especially in the kitchen). And, of course, we are too (this has not previously been an issue in our many years of shared living).

More about Rose Street’s monthly concerts: Rose Street House of Music is a volunteer-run volunteer-hosted house concert & grassroots musical community featuring women singer-songwriters. Rose Street brings out women's voices through poetic music of substance & depth.

All genders are welcome as audience, volunteers, & back-up musicians for the artists we feature.

When emailing about the room, please put "cloud room" in the subject. Thanks!

Roommates:
Daniel (me): besides fore-mentioned qualities, a thirty year-old Social Welfare undergrad at UCB (belated, I know..) Worked as a preschool teacher and residential counselor for adolescent youth… Continuing my education. Very spiritually inclined- the meaning of which had evolved over time, but basically striving for self-actualization and Truth through mediation, connection and service. An Ammachi devotee, though integrated with many spiritual philosophies. I play guitar and sing.. I love to dance. Cook delicious and healthy food. I do eat meat (mostly for health reasons) though I am working towards a mostly vegetarian diet. A novice Kombuchaist. Resourceful and prefer to do, make and create things myself rather than rely on buying them: self/community/local sustainability. I jog, ride bicycles, anything outdoors. I strive to be healthy: physically, mentally and spiritually

Claudia: 26 year-old German biology intern at UCB. She is only here through August- when she will be leaving for her next internship in Oklahoma!? She is bright and joyful and has an eager and earnest desire to experience all that California has to offer while she is here…

You: human being... (though friendly, interesting aliens may apply...) resonate with most (or all!!) of the fore-mentioned qualities and values. Prefer someone of similar age. Wants more than just a room to rent, but rather to contribute to a creating a more holistic and integrated home-environment. Lives an inspired and fulfilled life- or at least striving for such.. must have a natural disposition to cleanliness (i.e. does not need to be asked to clean up after self). Is self-driven. Considerate- especially considering it is somewhat small living space. A good Communicator. Financially stable, responsible with paying bills on time (you know- all the basic requirements for a functionaing, harmonious roommate…)

Details: Move in date: Aug. 3 (will prorate rent and utl’s). Looking for 1 year commitment. No pets allowed… sorry
Please respond: only if it seems like you fit and resonate with the description/vision… send descriptionof yourself: who you are, what looking for in a place, and any little interesting tidbits: favorite books, movies, foods, hobbies, games, annoyances, practices, etc… more descriptive, the better…
Thank you so much for reading through this rather meticulous ad.. if you got this far then there is likely some potential. I look forward to hearing from you…

~Daniel
p.s. I wasn’t able to upload more pictures to the site unfortunately. Will have to send them to you another way. Sorry. Trust me- it’s a quality place…

$485 :O) Don't JUMP INTO A LAKE!! Live where you can see one! (oakland lake merritt / grand) (map)

Yeah, I think I'll go with the lake. -GB

Date: 2009-03-08, 8:37PM PDT

gosh, housing trials and tribulation can make one want to jump into a lake (or worse) WTF!

but it seems that I've found a better solution, namely to move where you one can SEE a lake!

well, since I am a big-time water lover (sailing, SCUBA, hot springs, etc), I certainly appreciate the proximity of water and its beautiful, healing energy.

this place seems especially promising, with a yummy neighborhood (close to the grand ave./lakeshore end of the lake, which BTW is the best part of Lake Merritt).

walking to the Lake Merritt BART took me about 20 minutes; an inspiring walk mostly following the lake's shore. (probably 25 mins in heels). Trader Joe, Lucky's, Walgreens, Longs, etc are all walking distance. Many bus lines are nearby, it's just a few miles from Mills, and it's commutable to Cal and to San Francisco (the 580 freeway just a few blks away.)

laundry, fireplace & inner courtyard are part of the house. parking isn't too nasty.

now, if only I had a truly delightful roommate, it'd be nirvana... ;)

I've been described as an idiosyncratic artist -- "they threw away the mold after they made me". The jury is still out as to whether that was a compliment LOL

I have no pets. Nor outrageous habits (or so I like to think...) Generally clean, though not anal about it. No break-all-dishes fits of anger; relatively calm, actually, except on April 15.

Meaningless factoid #752: I hate raisins.

Useful factoid #4: I can't stand mega-dull people. (Hint, hint...)

Oh, and best of all, toilet use is included in the rent! (did you see the recent news?: one airline is planning to charge passengers to use the toilets! it won't be too long before landlords will follow suit!) actually, 2 bathrooms. nice, eh?

now, will you sweep me away with your email? or at least not put me to sleep LOL

:-)

Welcome to People Who Should Be Denied a Voice!

The idea for this blog was plucked from the ether while apartment hunting on SF Bay Area Craigslist. Far too many would-be roommates have obnoxious, exacting demands. Words like "holistic" and "patchouli" show up in far too many ads. We feel it is our sad duty to expose and decry these people. It would appear too many people are given a voice on the internet.

(The most painful parts of each post will be in bold for your scanning pleasure.)
